DESIGN MEETS TOURISM
Here and There continues its success introducing Dutch design in the most dynamically developing Southeast Asian country by participating in Bangkok Design Week 2018. Through projects, workshops, lectures and exhibitions Thai audience is invited to experience Dutch design in various fields. The unique method of facilitating projects by “learning by going” inspired designers and architects Studio Makkink & Bey, Winy Maas (MVRDV), Lio de Bruin, Atelier NL, Lucas Maassen, Wandschappen and Margriet Craens.
Within the general BKKDW theme ‘The New-ist Vibes’ Here and There briefed the designers to approach Bangkok Design Week from a tourism point of view. ‘Design meets Tourism’ theme addresses Bangkok, a city with many faces of tourism including history, food, nature, culture and health. Touching on these topics Here and There hopes to discover hidden stories and a new face of the Thai capital.
The program is generously supported by Stimulerings Fonds, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Thailand Creative and Design Center.
Atelier NL, Studio Makkink&Bey, Lucas Maassen, Lio de Bruin, Margriet Craens, and WANDSCHAPPEN has developed projects in Bangkok addressing Thailand from an unfamiliar point of view.
Atelier NL and Lucas Maassen worked with students from Silapakorn University.
The results of the 6 projects has been exhibited 29 January-4 February 2018 as part of Bangkok Design Week.
Winy Maas, co-founder of the Netherlands-based international acclaimed architecture and urban planning firm MVRDV, held a lecture on the future of cities as part of Creativities Unfold symposium, organised by TCDC.
