Lucas Maassen and Margriet Craens - Dealing with obstacles and borders, or how to design a new problem and solution for it workshop at State of Design, Berlin 2017
Date: June 3, 11.00-17.00
Location: Vollgutlager, Berlin
‘Dealing with obstacles and borders, or how to design a new problem and solution for it’ will be the full title of the workshop session given by Craens and Maassen – not just in reference to the fact that borders, walls and obstacles are still claimed by many to be the ultimate solution for political problems, but also because the Netherlands and Germany are neighbours, but still divided by borders, and because there was most probably no other city in 20th century history that was so marked by a wall as the German capital.
The session will investigate different kinds of obstacles, and ways to avoid them in a playful manner. While in the first part of the session participants will be invited to design obstacles, the second part will be devoted to designing strategies that allow to do away with them, and to get from Here to There without being blocked.
Schedule: Introducing Maassen & Craens - Introducing the workshop - Sketching designs - Lunch - Building prototypes - Testing the devices around the city
Workshop - 3rd June
